Winter Hair Care Tips

Winter Hair Care Tips

When the seasons change, so should your haircare. Jared shared a few of his best personal tips for how to combat dryness through the cold months of Fall and Winter and keep your hair radiant year-round.

1.       Condition

  • Dry air, indoors and out, from cold weather will strip moisture from the hair, making regular conditioning one of the most important steps in caring for your hair in the Winter.
  • Dry hair is especially prone to breakage around this time – our combative suggestion:
    • Use a conditioning masque
    • Get in-salon deep conditioning treatments
    • Switch to a more intensive daily conditioner
  • Using fabric softener on clothes and scarves will also help reduce static in your hair.

****We suggest our Absolut Repair or Nutrifier product lines to help fight against lack of moisture this time of year***

2.      Regular Trims

  • Getting your hair trimmed once a month helps prevent breakage from forming and moving up the hair shaft.
  • Using a moisturizing balm on ends of hair when dry also helps keep ends strong and prevents breakage.

****We suggest L’Oréal Professionnel’s Dryness Defense (DD) balm from the Nutrifier line****

3.       In the Shower

  • Avoid using hot water when shampooing hair; instead, use warm or cold water. This will help keep hair smooth and hydrated by not robbing it of its natural oils.
  • Towel blot hair after showering and apply a nourishing oil to hair from mid-shaft to ends.

**We suggest L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil or Mythic Color Glow Oil**

  • Use a wide tooth comb (we use the Krembs rotating comb here at the salon) to prevent static.
  • Choose a brush with boar bristles (such as an Ibiza or Sam Villa) during blowouts
  • Minimize the use of your blow dryer if possible, and when using it, make sure the heat setting is set to “LOW”

4. Last Tips

  • Wearing a scarf or hat when outside in cold hair will prevent damage from drying UV rays
  • Drinking plenty of water will keep you hydrated, helping to retain moisture in your hair.
